British Nationality…what’s it worth?

December 3rd, 2007 Written by Biz

Remember the ‘good old days’ when going abroad meant that to all intents and purposes, armed with your trusty blue British passport, most countries would recognise your nation as one that would brook no interference with their citizens and they would, therefore, respect this nation, respect you and let you go on unhindered? Imagine also, that if that kind of safety was assured abroad, then once back in good old blighty, a British citizen must be neigh on invincible…well sadly, times have changed!

Holding British nationality is basically a sort of covenant between the citizen and the Government. For our part, we pay our taxes and thus finance the country and in times of immanent invasion etc, we should expect to defend our borders: in return, we expect the Government to do its utmost to assist us in times of difficulty abroad; but more than that, whilst at home, it is incumbent upon the Government to grant us the full measure of protection and benefits that being a citizen confers.

There are, however, three pieces of news, which when you ‘join the dots’, basically mean that from now on…we’re all on our own!

The first piece of news has actually been a long running saga; it is the sad episode of the Nat West three and I am genuinely shocked that we took the full import of this so lightly. The three British bankers were basically caught out in the fallout of the Enron scandal. The actual evidence against them was tenuous and inconclusive at best; however, the Americans were looking for as many easy scapegoats as possible and sought to have the three extradited on fraud charges. The three bankers fought the extradition in the highest courts in the land, but they were treacherously sold out by Britain. You see, accusations of fraud are not and never have been extraditable offences in Britain…but whatever the Americans demand, out spineless Government will give them; they have also now set a precedent…and betrayed us all.

The second piece of news does not directly affect us…yet. The Americans it seems are set to destroy the last vestiges of their freedoms with the introduction of Senate Bill 1959…a bill that is set to criminalise thoughts, blogs, books and many expressive freedoms across America. I will not go into the minutiae of the Bill here (anyone interested in the detail can follow this link http://www.newstarget.com/022308.html). Basically though, the bill enables the President to label anyone he wishes to, a terrorist for no more than even expressing a negative opinion about the Government…let alone committing any actual terrorist or criminal act.

The third and final piece of news is shocking in itself and should have seen us all manning the barricades with bricks, stones and fires ready to stand up for the very existence of our nation, until the spineless traitors (otherwise known as the Government) took action to unequivocally stand up for us. Taken in tandem with the above piece of news and the precedent set by the first piece…we’d best all watch out. The Sunday edition of the Times Online highlighted a case in our very own Court of Appeal, where a senior American lawyer told the Court that America ‘had the right’ to kidnap British Citizens if they were suspected of any crime in the USA. YES…you heard correctly…THE USA CAN KIDNAP BRITISH CITIZENS ANYWHERE…INCLUDING RIGHT HERE!!!!!

That’s right…suspected of any crime…so even if guilt is not proven…and the offence is not extraditable…they can come over here and just lift anyone off the streets! This is tantamount to the destruction of our national sovereignty and the Government has not said a word…not a comment…it has just bent over ready for yet another shafting!

But wait…there’s even worse to come. The US Government has been unconstitutionally persecuting its critics and detractors in America, in order to silence them for some time now. All critical media personnel are automatically put on a travel watch list (they are on the same watch status on planes etc, as terrorists), even peaceful anti-war protesters have been dispersed forcibly and arrested. If the new Senate Bill 1959 is voted in, though, then these critics could be deemed ‘terrorists’ and locked up without trial…but the same could apply over here too.

If for instance I said in a blog that; George W Bush was a witless moron that couldn’t coherently string two sentences together and had the vocabulary range of an eight year old; who dodged out of the Vietnam war like a spineless coward whilst his countrymen without the same corrupt contacts had to go there to serve…and die. I could, under the proposed new Bill, be named as a terrorist and kidnapped by US agents right here in London (oh damn…I did say that in a blog). There are moreover, still appeal cases pending for a dozen or so senior British managers who are under investigation by American courts…even if they were cleared and discharged by our sovereign courts…they could also be in line for kidnapping.

Seems to me that the supposed covenant between Citizens and their Government is well and truly broken…looks like were all on our own now. The last time there was such disrespect for the Citizens, the French sent them all to the Guillotine…maybe they had the right idea. Till next time, look out for yourselves…and stay safe.
