Picture Loans TV Advert - What a joke!

You must have seen the advert on TV for a company called Picture Loans. Its an absolute joke! They try to use simple psychology to glorify the process of getting yourself into debt with a loan.

It starts by showing a scene of domestic bliss. A housewife pottering around tidying up after the kids etc, then sitting down and picking up the phone to call Picture, then discussing a £25,000 loan as if she is ordering a loaf of bread.

To make it appear even more acceptable and normal to have a loan, they have the kids shouting to their mum whilst she is on the phone. She simply says “hang on a second please” then answers the kids, before going back and having a lovely conversation with the Picture Loans people! Its bonkers! As are supposed to believe that tying yourself into a £25,000 longterm financial commitment is this pleasant?

Then, if that wasnt enough, in walks the hubby… “hello darling…..” to which the reply is “shhhhh, im on the phone to Picture”… almost as if Mrs Stupid and Picture are long term friends! Then she confirms with her hubby, in the nicest possible way “it was £25,000 we wanted wasnt it?”…..

Do these people think we are thick or something? Glorifying loans in this way and trying to fool us into thinking its all part of normal life, should be banned.

Its no wonder the people in this country are digging themselves further and further into a financial mess! Its almost “cool” to have a massive debt hanging around your neck, and these pathetic attempts at mental bullying, doesnt make things any better. Companies like Picture are so irresponsible producing ads like these.

Wonder if Mr Picture would be as pleasant on the phone if they defaulted on payments, due to sickness or illness? Thats right, you never see THAT side of it. Stop making debt look pleasant and acceptable and show it for what it really is…. a companies way of existing, my making you feel odd one out for not tying yourself into debt…. of course, whilst ripping you off for extortionate interest rates at the same time!
