Terrible terrorists cause terror (but not as much as the Government)

November 15th, 2007 Written by Biz

Am I in a minority of one, or has anyone else come to the conclusion that the Government’s publicity of the domestic terror threat is a complete load of bollo*ks designed to panic the general population into acquiescing to their ever expanding range of unprecedented and draconian laws…laws that are ostensibly aimed at Muslims, but will, no doubt, before too long be used against the rest of us?

Let’s look at some of the Government’s proclamations on the threat so far:

  • “This is the greatest threat ever faced by this country”. Well even a Primary School pupil of 8 could probably see through this tripe; they might recall the Spanish Armada of 1588 or Britain on its last legs, facing invasion during World War Two, or even the IRA terror threat, as instances 1000 times more dire than the current situation. Then again, having intelligence greater than a Primary Pupil was never a requirement for Government office.
  • “They fanatically hate western civilisation and are out to destroy it”. Strange thing that; I thought they got on fine with us, but just suddenly got pissed off because we invaded Iraq for no reason. Another strange thing; they don’t seem to be pissed off with the western civilisation of countries that had nothing to do with the invasion.
  • “There are about 2,000 potential terrorists in the UK. Well maybe readers of the Dandy, Beano or the Sun might be fooled by this (although the first two only temporarily so), but the rest of us can only laugh in their stupid pathetic faces. How do they know? Did they count them? And if so…having counted them, why didn’t they arrest them? The IRA, the deadliest terrorist organisation EVER, only had about 90 actual terrorists at the height of their bombing campaign; they had been going for 10 to 15 years by that stage and were 10, 000 times more lethal and skilled than the current incumbents. Could it be that the Government has ‘sexed up’ the figures? Wouldn’t be the first time.
  • “Terror could strike us at any place, at any time and from any direction” Well of course it could you morons; but so could lightning, chicken flu, and a tax bill from the Inland Revenue. The job of government, though, is not to panic the population on purpose.

And therein lies the rub. Cast your mind back to the IRA terror campaign; it caused complete decimation to targeted areas and killed or injured thousands, yet all through those troubles the Government called for calm but alert vigilance and for everyone to go about their business as usual lest the terrorists change our way of life through their tactics. Above all, the Government, even when dire events had occurred, always attempted NEVER to panic the public!

Contrast this with today’s Government, who paints the worst possible picture at every opportunity, literally stoking the fires of fear and paranoia. Compared to the IRA, Muslim extremists are like kindergarten kids; whilst they have to haphazardly mix up batches of fertiliser explosives in kitchens, in the past, the IRA hit us with the full might of commercial Semtex explosives, the latest Armalite and AK 47 rifles with unlimited ammunition, machine guns, 50mm cannon, grenades, RPG’s  and millions of dollars of funding from the USA and yet received only a fraction of the publicity.

One can only surmise that there is some reason for this over the top scaremongering and isn’t it funny how just before a new liberty restricting law is pushed for, some fresh new threat comes forward to justify it? Make no mistake; once such laws are on the statute they are just as likely to be used on any one of us…think not? Well look at the record so far:

  • Remember the frail octogenarian ejected from the Labour Party Conference…he was arrested under the terrorism act for heckling the Prime Minister!
  • Likewise, remember the schoolteacher who was arrested under the same act for endangering the Nation by reading out the names of those killed in the Gulf and Afghanistan at the Cenotaph?
  • Likewise, you can be arrested under the same act for demonstrating in certain places (places that would be embarrassing to the Government), such as in front of the Houses of Parliament.

Now this may seem like small fry to some, but rights like this are what thousands of years of our history are all about; they are what being British is all about and if we are too stupid to see that; we might as well have let the Germans invade us, for all the good our proud history has been.

Now even as we speak; the government is looking to justify 52 days of incarceration without trial for terror suspects. Great! Lock them up, I hear some say. Well don’t be morons!

The Government is very quick to stoke the headlines whenever people are taken in as suspects…you might even remember many of the headlines yourself. What they don’t ever do, is announce that almost all of these people are released without charge…that’s right…it means that they’re innocent.

Now nobody knows how many ‘Islamic Extremists’ there are, but if we play this wrong we are going to end up with loads of them! Now I’m not a terrorist, or a Muslim, but I can tell you that if I was an innocent man (which I am…pay attention), and if I were taken in for 52 days and then released, I would have probably lost my job by that time, I would have a permanent police record which would bar me from most other decent jobs, my family would have suffered; I might even have lost my home…now if that happened, I can tell you that I would be looking for some payback…BIG TIME!
